A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on March 28, causing widespread devastation across the region. At least 3,600 people were killed and thousands more injured, according to local officials. The situation is dire in one of Asia’s most vulnerable countries that’s already grappling with a humanitarian crisis.
Americares deployed an emergency response team in the region to coordinate with partners on the ground and is supporting mobile medical teams treating survivors. We are also exploring ways to provide emergency funding to trusted local partners delivering care on the ground and increase access to clean water and sanitation by supporting the storage and distribution of clean water and installing toilets for earthquake survivors.
