Support survivors of Venezuela earthquakes and other patients globally

작성자 Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)

After two devastating earthquakes struck Venezuela on June 24, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams are running four mobile clinics in the most affected areas. Our teams are providing primary health care, emergency mental health support, and health promotion. They are also carrying out water, sanitation, and hygiene activities, including providing access to clean water. The official death toll of the earthquakes has reached 5,398, with 16,740 people injured, 17,907 displaced, and 6,462 rescued from the rubble.

In the first month after the earthquakes, MSF donated about 8.5 tons of emergency medical supplies. This large-scale logistical effort supported immediate, lifesaving operations and helped address the health care needs of an estimated 10,000 patients. Our teams also continue to provide disinfectants and infection prevention and control supplies to both operational hospitals and overwhelmed local morgues, helping to ensure safety, hygiene, and dignity amid unprecedented loss.

With local infrastructure severely compromised, MSF teams installed a 1,320-gallon water bladder in Playa Verde to provide a reliable source of clean water, chlorinated four primary water distribution sites and continuously monitor water quality, and distributed 5,000 bottles of emergency drinking water to families living on the streets in makeshift displacement sites or sleeping in tents near their damaged homes.

As families continue searching for loved ones beneath the rubble and cope with the shock of sudden homelessness and displacement, mental health needs are rapidly increasing. To respond, our teams have integrated mental health care into the mobile clinic response, providing 113 individual mental health sessions, 323 group therapy sessions, and 1,402 psycho-education sessions.

WAs one of the only international aid organizations present during the first hours following the disaster, MSF was able to help fill critical supply gaps when hospitals exhausted their emergency stocks. MSF teams are also in the Delta Amacuro and Anzoátegui regions of the country. While these regions have not been directly affected by the earthquakes, we will send emergency supplies and staff from these projects as needed. In 2025, our teams supported the public health network in Anzoátegui and Delta Amacuro by providing sexual and reproductive health services and conducting infection prevention and control. Our teams are prepared to adapt and support the evolving medical humanitarian needs as the response moves beyond the initial trauma phase.

MSF remains committed to providing lifesaving care for all our patients in over 75 countries around the world. MSF USA takes no government funding and relies on unrestricted funds from private donors like you. This means that when an emergency strikes, we don't have to write grants or face red tape and restrictions before we respond—we can act fast and start saving lives immediately.
