Americares Responding: Deadly Earthquake In Philippines

AMERICARES FOUNDATION INC

On September 30, a devastating 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Cebu, Philippines. Hospitals in the worst-hit areas are overwhelmed and struggling to manage the influx of patients. Critical infrastructure including power grids, roads and bridges has been severely damaged, hampering relief operations. At least 69 people are confirmed dead and more than 150 were injured, with numbers expected to rise as assessments continue.

Americares is uniquely positioned to respond to this crisis. Already on the ground in Cebu, an Emergency Response Team was able to immediately deploy to provide emergency relief and essential medicines.

Our response includes:

Emergency Medical Care: Delivering essential medicines—including antibiotics, pain relievers, and treatments for diabetes and hypertension—through partner clinics in Bogo City, initially reaching 400 patients with plans to expand to more than 1,000 patients in the coming weeks.

Mental Health Support: Deploying psychological first aid teams to provide urgently needed support for survivors coping with trauma and displacement.

Clean Water Access: Assessing urgent needs and preparing to deploy our ASPEN 3000 water purification system from Manila to restore safe drinking water where infrastructure is compromised.

Rapid Mobilization: 14 Americares responders—8 Philippines staff and 6 emergency roster members—are now active in the hardest-hit areas.

When disaster strikes, we can deliver lifesaving aid and support long-term recovery for survivors. But your swift support in moments like this is crucial.

Please consider donating today to help our emergency team deliver critical relief to those affected by the deadly earthquake in the Philippines and other crises around the world.
